Facilities Maintenance Summer Student

Southport is looking to grow its dedicated team with the addition of a Facilities Maintenance Summer Student. Because this position has been created to provide quality summer work experiences for young people, candidates must be between the ages of 16 to 29 years to apply. The Facilities Maintenance Summer Student is responsible for supporting facilities operation by performing groundskeeping duties on site and providing support to facilities technicians for projects and daily duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with facilities maintenance.
  • Performing manual labour and other duties as may be required for the effective and efficient operation of Southport. 
  • Complete maintenance tasks as assigned following safe work procedures. 
  • Assisting with maintenance, repair, and operations of Southport Commercial and Residential areas. 
  • Utilize a diverse range of hand, power tools and instruments. 
  • All other jobs as assigned. 

Job Requirements:

  • Previous maintenance or landscaping experience would be considered an asset. 
  • Work tasks are performed predominantly outdoors and involve physical strength, endurance, and manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment. 
  • Requires walking and standing for long periods. The duration of time will vary depending on the specific task being accomplished. 
  • Must be able to exert, lift, and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds regularly and perform manual labour for extended periods in various weather conditions. 
  • Must be able to work outdoors for long periods, often in hot or inclement weather. 
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team, with minimum supervision. 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent prioritizing, multi-tasking, and critical thinking skills. 
  • High School Diploma. 
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s licence. 
  • Basic Administrative Duties.
